Five Things Friday

You know what I completely forgot about when I went back to work? Work treats. There are the office birthday parties with cake. The chocolates people bring in from home that are left over from Christmas that they don’t want to eat. There are the “it’s nice out, let’s walk to the coffee shop/doughnut store/place that will sell you designer sugar at inflated prices” coffee breaks.

And who eats it all? Me. Most of my meals? Pretty healthy. It’s what’s between the meals that isn’t. So in an attempt to fit back into the clothes I bought just after Christmas, here are my five favourite snacks that will satisfy my need to eat without making my grumpy

  1. Rice cake, topped with natural peanut butter and apple slices.
  2. Veggie sticks and hummus
  3. Almonds
  4. Cottage cheese and kiwi
  5. Air popped popcorn

What are some of your healthy treats?

  1. oh, man… I have SUCH a hard time saying no to the treats, too. I typically crave salty snacks, but I’ll never turn down a donut, lol. I love all your healthy snack ideas though! Especially rice cakes with almond butter–I haven’t had that in a while, but it’s a good for you snack that kind of satisfies a sweet tooth. Also hummus and pretzels / carrots or celery works sometimes too.

Hope you have a great weekend, momma! XO

  2. Treats and work are like pizza and beer – they just go together. And it is impossible to resist either one! Stocking up on healthy snacks is a good idea though! I forget how much I love cottage cheese, I don’t think I’ve ever had it with kiwi! I’ve had it with peaches though.Yum. I need to get some now.

    • I just ate a handful of jujubes. After finishing a way too sweet Starbucks latte. The only snack I had in my lunch bag was chocolate which I ate this morning. This blog post sounds so altruistic in theory but is a giant fail in practice.

  3. We are totally on the same page here. I get way too excited about unhealthy work treats so I’m trying to be better too. I’ve never tried adding a rice cake to my apple + PB combo but I bet that would be good and so crunchy! In fact all of these sound great except #4–I’m not really a fan of cottage cheese or kiwi for some reason.

  4. Ooh I love popcorn, apples and peanut butter, and string cheese. It can be tough to snack healthy though – especially at work!
